Description

We have a gorgeous litter of Dark Fox Red Pups available shortly. This is Tess’s first litter, and she has been a great mum, highly attentive and has carried it off effortlessly. Of the few litters we have bred over the years it has always been important that they should appeal equally as working gundogs and/or as intelligent biddable family pets. Tess is from our last litter over three years ago and homes were snapped up for her litter mates which went on to have fulfilling and loved lives measured by the glowing occasional updates we still receive. We have 3 bitches and 3 dogs available. Both parents are fully health tested with excellent hip and elbow scores and recent clear eye tests. Hopefully the photos do the litter justice: 1. The Boys 2. The Girls 3. The litter at play 4. Tess dam 5. Tess 6. Ki Sire 7. Ki Our dam Tess is a sweet and friendly home bred bitch with an excellent working pedigree. Her BVA health test results are clear for eyes, 6/4 for Hips and 0/1 for Elbows. Her sociable and mild temperament puts her at ease with other dogs, adults and children. The Sire we chose came highly recommended and was worth the trip to Lancashire. Claybrow Red Rambler known as ‘Ki’ is an extremely handsome working gundog with a very calm temperament. He has a number of Awards and Certificates of Merit in working Gundog Tests and enjoys a vigorous and rewarding life on fields and moors in the North of England. Health screening clear for Eyes, 2/3 for Hips and 0/0 for Elbows. The perfect match as a Sire for this beautiful litter. The puppies will be KC registered, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. They will also have received their first vaccination. The litter will also receive a Veterinary Certificate following examination by our vets. Under KC registration they will have 5 weeks KC Insurance and a 5 generation KC pedigree. We will only be letting our pups go to suitable homes and prospective owners are required to meet and view the pups and make their choice in advance of the rehoming date. We only wish to ensure that our pups go into loving homes and have a rewarding life ahead, they will be available to go onto their new homes from the 13th January. We welcome any questions or further information and very much look forward to hearing from you.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
